Lessons from the Journey to the Mountain

Apu Pitusiray is a mountain in the Calca region. It is mostly uninhabited except for people who bring their animals to graze. There are many legends and stories about this mountain. Generally, people know this mountain as an “Apu” which means that it has a powerful spirit and energy.

We were on a mission to collect khuyas (power stones) for some ceremonial gatherings from Apu Pitusiray. It was three of us and one local guide. We met at 4:00am, unable to sleep in anticipation. We arrived to Calca and up the road to the antenna, where we offered coca and blew our prayers into the leaves before starting up the mountain.

Meeting Himba Women in Namibia

Women’s day... thinking of these women who reminded me to lead from the heart. In 2004, I studied in Namibia and Botswana with a small group. We met some nomadic Himba women who grabbed the 3 women in our group and created a circle. They just started singing and dancing, inviting us to join and also share our songs and dances. There’s a lot I learned from these women that has stayed with me but one is to meet from heart and spirit, which often happens when joining in song and dance. In this case, we didn’t have the language connection to be able to meet intellectually like we tend to do in the modern world, but it made me more aware about how it feels when we meet from our hearts first.

What else did I learn from our brief encounter? We visited one of their communities and got to learn about their lives. And in any sort of cultural interaction, there’s a mutual curiosity and learning that naturally occurs.

Miracles are Simply Shifts in Perception

MIRACLES ARE SIMPLY SHIFTS IN PERCEPTION

One of the points that I want to share is the shift in perception of miracles. Often, when we think of miracles, we imagine something supernatural or unexplainable, something grand like the parting of the red sea or a mother being able to suddenly lift a car to save her baby.

The way that A Course in Miracles defines a miracle is “a shift in perception” or “correction of perception”. We often overlook how massive a seeming tiny shift in perception can be in our lives. That grudge you’ve been holding against that one person for years? To be able to let go of that is a miracles. You’re going from fear/guilt to love.

My experience with A Course in Miracles and other healing modalities has been to apply these principles on a daily basis. It’s not a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. Miracles can be daily because we are miraculous!

Morning Routine to Start Your Day with a Clear Mind

I have a list of a dozen short practices including a morning meditation which I do in the morning before I open my phone. The result? I feel accomplished, clear-minded, and start my day feeling embodied in myself.

One key aspect to actually fulfilling your list to set achievable minimum goals. Why? This is because one of the biggest block we have in achieving our goals is just STARTING. Just saying you’ll read 5 pages or meditate for one single minute, can get you doing it when you’d usually “wait until you have more time.”

Healing Family Patterns with ThetaHealing

One of the themes which I have encountered a lot, both with clients and in my own life, is healing and releasing family patterns.

I find that a lot of people, myself included, find it much easier to get away from family in order to be themselves. I think that can be an important part in a person’s process. Especially if you grow up in an environment where you recognize the mentality or communication style is not what you want. Or there might be toxicity or people stuck in limiting beliefs. And sometimes there is a need to remove oneself from that environment to break out of patterns.
